| While there are really not many sights in Dunhuang's
city center, most travelers who come to Dunhuang come for the various
sights around Dunhuang like the Mogao Grottoes, Crescent Moon Spring
and Ancient City of Dunhuang. Therefore, the local tourist industry
in and around Dunhuang is becoming more and more developed. Hotels,
restaurants, bars and more are being built along the few major streets
of this little town.
Most of the hotels in Dunhuang vary their rates by season. During
the tourist season (summer season) prices tend to rise about 30%.
If you're on a budget, the cheaper hotels tend to be in the southeast
of town, close to the bus station. For budget travelers, the Feitian
Hotel offers reasonable rates at a great location just opposite
the long distance bus station. The Western Region Hotel is another
popular budget choice. For a dorm bed, the price can range from
RMB15 to RMB30 and a double costs about RMB120.
Among the middle range hotels, the Silk Road Hotel provides comfortable
doubles with an attached bathroom for only RMB250 and the the
hotel's staff are very courteous. When you check in, the staff
will serve you a cup of hot tea and a damp cloth to wipe your
face. Also, Dunhuang's International Hotel is the best run luxury
place in town, while the Dunhuang Hotel provides good service
but is a bit overpriced. These hotels charge RMB360 to RMB600
for a double room.
If you have more money to spend and want to find a luxurious
and tranquil hotel, the Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel awaits! This
hotel is located outside the city and only one km from the Mogao
Grottoes. Guests can enjoy marvelous sunrises and sunsets over
the Singing Sand Mountains. However, it all comes with a price,
around RMB900! Depending on your budget, even this can be quite
reasonable.
