| Among all of Dunhuang's attractions, the Mogao Grottoes (also
known as the Dunhuang Grottoes) are definitely the most worthy of
scenery. This site boasts the largest collection of Buddhist grottoes
in existence in China. Many of the 492 grottoes here date back as
early as one thousand years ago (covering a period of ten dynasties).
Perhaps the most famous aspect of Dunhuang's grottoes is the murals
that feature Buddhist stories, folk culture, farming and hunting
as their main themes.
Meanwhile, Dunhuang, the Ancient City, isn't exactly what you
might think it is. It is actually a gigantic movie set where you
can get a feel for ancient Dunhuang. However, for the real thing,
you can explore the Yang guan Pass and Yumen guan Pass great ruins
that protect the real Ancient City of Dunhuang from western barbarians
and invaders.
Dunhuang also prides itself on its charming natural beauty. Crescent
Moon Spring and the Singing Sand Mountains are fantastic way to
experience the desert landscape of Dunhuang.
